Toy Story comes to town, again

June 29th, 2010

In time for the premiere of Toy Story 3 in Australia, www.timeforbed.com.au has just received a new shipment of kids pyjamas. Just another reason why you love the website – we’re keeping on top of the trends.

One of Disney’s most prized animation is reaching new and old audiences this time round. In the 1995 original film, we’re introduced to the toy’s owner, Andy as a child but 2010 sees Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the whole gang watch their friend go off to college.

Now the toys have a new home in daycare and are forced to make new friends with a not-so-friendly bunch of toddlers. Join the toys and some new playful characters as they plan their great escape.

Fall in love with these colourful and heroic characters all over again and celebrate the new film with some, you guessed it, pyjamas.

Look out for Toy Story 3 in cinemas this June. Just remember, no toy gets left behind!

WHY KIDS LOVE TOY STORY

These famous characters have attracted the attention of kids right from the start. Capturing audiences for their humour, heroic nature and overall spirit. Strong friendship and family values carry through the film’s most celebrated toys. Let’s reflect on some of the greats.

Sheriff Woody Pride – An old-fashioned stuffed cowboy, Woody has been Andy’s favourite toy since kindergarten and continues to be the leader of the toys.

Buzz Lightyear- Buzz is the “Star Ranger from Star Command.” A high-tech action figure whose sudden arrival threatens Woody’s position as the head of the toys later becomes his best pal.

Jessie - the female counterpart to Woody, she has red hair, green eyes and tends to Yodel when she’s excited or happy.

Other friendly characters include – Bullseye the Horse, Rex the Dinosaur, Hamm the Piggy Bank, Slinky Dog, Mr. Potato Head & Mrs Potato Head, Squeeze Toy Aliens, Barbie, Sarge, Little Bo Peep, RC, Lenny the Binoculars, Wheezy the Penguin, Mr. Shark and Roly Poly Clown.

Baby Gifts! Baskets, Wraps, Sets and Bath Products

May 13th, 2010

When a new baby enters this world, it’s customary to welcome it with gifts. Some people find the idea of picking out little baby shoes or cute little newborn ensembles fun, while others might find the process of picking and choosing a bit frustrating and time-consuming. It’s OK; not everyone is a shopper and not everyone has the time to spend at the shops browsing, picking and choosing. If you are this person, we can help you!

Gift Baskets

Our gift baskets are like the ultimate gift, giving the baby everything it needs to be comfortable while sleeping. The classic, “It’s a Girl Gift Basket”, contains 1 Satin bound cotton blanket, 1 four-piece set size 000 (1 Romper with short leg, 1 romper, coordinated t-shirt and matching bib featuring Winnie the Pooh), 2 pairs of socks and 1 teddy bear. The entire package is put together in a beautiful seagrass basket with handles for a spectacular presentation for a new mother and father.

Wraps and Blankets

Wraps are always a necessity when a baby comes on-board. One is never enough, so we have packages of three beautiful wraps to choose from. The Confetti Pink Flannel Wraps are three separate wraps, made of 100% cotton, presented in white and pink prints. If that doesn’t suit your needs, there are also the White Coral Velour Baby Blankets. These super soft wraps are machine washable and made from polyester.

Gift Sets

If you’re looking for something a bit less than the Gift Baskets, there are some fabulous gift sets in store. Choose from cream, pale blue or pale pink velour sleepsuits with matching blankets. The pale blue velour sleepsuit contains a satin moon and star applique on the front, and it is packaged with a satin blanket and padded hanger to top it off. The pale pink gift set comes with adorable pink hearts applique for when it’s a girl!

Bath Products

To mix it up a bit, Timeforbed.com.au also carries a range of Peter Rabbit creams and soaps. Choose from all over body wash, gentle hair shampoo, baby lotion and barrier cream. The Peter Rabbit gentle hair wash is 100% natural, meaning it contains no artificial colours, fragrances, petrochemicals or parabens. On top of this, it also comes in a fantastic little package to make it gift-ready upon arrival.

The Peter Rabbit Soothing Baby Lotion also comes in a sensitive formula perfect for a baby’s skin.

Our baby gift products are available for delivery Australia wide, even for the most remote locations. Part of why people love our shop is because we make affordable baby and children bedtime products accessible in rural areas. And, there’s still some fabulous pyjama sets to choose from as well, so you could definitely say that Timeforbed.com.au has some of the best baby gifts online.

Put a Little “Upsy Daisey” in Her Life

May 6th, 2010

At Timeforbed.com.au, we do pyjamas, and not just any pyjamas, but children’s pyjamas that feature the latest and greatest characters and icons that the young ones love. This week, we’d like to feature the lovely little Upsy Daisey, making sure to talk about why little girls might love her.

Upsy Daisey is a ragdoll character from the English children’s program, In the Night Garden. The series ran for the first time in 2007 on the BBC, and has been on the up and up ever since. The reason for this is two-fold: the children love the fantasy land and characters, while the parents love its calming effects. When so many other television programs for children were focused on building energy, In the Night Garden was made to help ease the transition from waking to sleep for your children (a time that can otherwise be stressful for both parents and kids).

In the Night Garden involves a number of interesting characters that live in a garden area that is always sunny and colourful. Since the program is targeted to getting children calmed for bed, the show actually starts off with a child in bed. As the show continues, there is a mix of interactions in a fake language finally ending in a bedtime story.

About Upsy Daisey

The Upsy Daisey character is one of many with a fun name in this program. She is a brown-coloured ragdoll with colourful hair and a dress. She is a rambunctious character, full of life which shows when her hair stands up and her skirt poofs out. Part of Upsy Daisey’s role is to run after her bed when it decides to run off on its own.
Upsy Daisey Here I Come Pyjamas

Of course, Upsey Daisey wouldn’t quite be the same without her catch phrase: “Upsy daisey!”

Saying on the pyjamas:

“Upsy daisey here I come

I’m the only Upsy one

I’m the only Daisey too

Ipsy Upsy Daisey Doo!”

Why Girls Like Her

Upsy Daisey is of course a female character, and just like little boys might prefer to watch Bob the Builder, little girls are generally more drawn to girly characters. Beyond that, Upsy Daisey is fun and cheery, with colourful hair and a colourful dress. She likes to rhyme, which is fun for kids to listen and repeat, especially when building their own speaking skills. If Upsy Daisey sounds like something your little girl would like, why not check out these awesome Upsy Daisey pyjamas and put a little “Upsy Daisey” in her life!

Other In the Night Garden Characters

Igglepiggle and Makka Pakka are two other characters from the night garden. Igglepiggle is the character that starts and ends the show, arriving and exiting on a boat – all while having his red blanket in tow. Makka Pakka resembles a pale teletubby and lives in a cave. His head has 3 small cones, one on top and one on each side. We carry pyjamas featuring these characters for little boys:

As stated above, Timeforbed.com.au strives to carry popular and affordable pyjamas for kids in Australia. If there is a character not on our site that would like to see there, please let us know. Also, be sure to check back often as new pyjamas come and go!

All Seasons Always in Stock: Here’s Why

April 29th, 2010

Yes, the weather is currently changing in Australia to a bit cooler in nature. And, yes, the entire front page of the Timeforbed.com.au shop is covered with winter pyjamas. Even so, you might be interested in knowing that we pledge to carry all seasons of boy’s, girl’s and baby’s pyjamas at all times of the year! We do this to benefit you, our lovely customers, because we know how hard it is to find what you’re looking for at the shops when the shopping season for it has already passed.

Seasons of Australia

While the seasons in Australia do actually change, and the weather gets cooler in most parts, there are parts of the north that stay on the warm side all year ’round. The Darwin area, for example, stays around the 32 degree mark, even in the winter. With that in mind, we like to make sure our customers, who come from all over the country, can find a special set of pyjamas that is right for their child or baby.

Shopping Seasons

It’s funny how shopping seasons work. It seems that when one season is actually in full-force, the next season’s clothes are already back on the shop’s shelves. So, for this reason, replacing an old pair of pyjamas with something more seasonally appropriate might be a little trying. Luckily, Timeforbed.com.au has all seasons in stock, all the time, to help those having issues finding suitable pyjamas for their children otherwise.

Blue Skater Summer Pjs

Holidays Abroad

Perhaps you are currently experiencing a summer, or live in the warmer parts of the country, but plan to take a nice holiday overseas where the weather is extremely different. In this case, being able to shop for suitable pyjamas for your child or baby from the comfort of your own home can be vital in order to prepare for a holiday abroad. Not only that, but who wants to spend time in a hotel or with relatives in ratty old pj’s? Timeforbed.com.au has new pyjamas at really low prices, making them easy to purchase or replace when necessary.

Planning Ahead

If you’re the type of person that loathes shopping for (or with) your children, you might find joy in planning ahead. For example, some parents may choose to do one big shop for the year for the majority of their children’s clothes around the time school starts. This could entail purchasing both summer and winter pyjamas at the same time. Besides that, buying multiple items at once from our online shop can save you money in the long run when it comes to postage.

All Seasons Always in Stock

As you can see, having all seasons of children’s and baby’s pyjamas in stock at all times has great benefits to our wonderful customers. We believe that great pyjamas and great prices should be available to all Australians, no matter which area or climate they live in. This is also why we cater to those in more rural areas of the country that would otherwise lack the ability to gain fun pj’s from a local shop around the corner. Be sure to keep in touch on Twitter (@timeforbedau), and have a look around the shop from time to time as we’re always getting new and exciting products!

A Boy’s Fascination With Bob the Builder

April 22nd, 2010

For some reason, little boys are just fascinated with big machines. Trains, trucks and tractors all seem to draw their eyes, leaving them in total amazement. You’ve probably seen the look on a few little faces before, perhaps when they come into view of the famous Bob the Builder?

Bob the Builder is a stop-motion cartoon character that works as a building contractor. Part of Bob’s job is to work with large machines and construction equipment in order to get the project done, bringing the best of what little boys love to look at, and up to, into one world – machines and older men. In the program, it appears as though the machines are made out to be children with characteristics kids can relate to, while Bob is the fatherly figure that sticks with them and teaches them how to work properly.

The Main Human Characters

Beyond Bob, the main human characters that can be seen throughout the program are Wendy and Farmer Pickles.

  • Wendy helps Bob to run the contracting business. She maintains the office, but is also sometimes seen undertaking some of the work in the construction yard.
  • Farmer Pickles is a man that lives nearby, but makes appearances when extra help is needed.

The Main Machine Characters

Quite a few machines live and work in the construction yard, but the main characters involved are the following:

  • Scoop is the leading machine of the bunch. He is a big, yellow tractor that would be known as a backhoe loader.

You can see Scoop in this pair of boys’ pyjamas:

  • Roley is a green steamroller, played by a male voice and always ready to help.
  • Dizzy gets her suiting name from being an orange cement mixer that spins and spins. She is the youngest in the bunch, but that doesn’t hold her back!
  • Muck is a large, red bulldozer that often is a bit too hasty with his decisions.

See Roley, Dizzy and Muck in these boys’ pyjamas:

Can we fix it?

Bob’s favourite saying is, “Can we fix it?” This, of course, is answered by a loud and proud, “Yes we can!” Kids love it, parents love it; this saying was so popular as part of the show and the theme song that it actually became a top hit in in the United Kingdom. How about that?!

With the popularity of this fun program, Timeforbed.com.au makes sure we have Bob the Builder pyjamas for your boys in stock at all times! Be sure to take a look around our shop, and if you happen to ever notice your boy getting that wide-eyed look of awe when in view of a big machine, you know where to come for the perfect pyjamas!

Choosing the Right Baby Size

April 19th, 2010

Baby sizes can be a bit confusing, especially since they are just a matter of zeros and not much more than that. Perhaps you don’t have children of your own, but are in need of getting someone a new baby gift? Or, perhaps you are a new mom or dad and in need of starting a new baby wardrobe? Lucky you; you’ve found a great resource for explaining baby sizes, as well as purchasing cute little baby pyjamas and gifts!

Standard Baby Sizes Explained

Size 0000: We normally recommend this size for newborns up to 4 kilograms in weight. However, it seems that a lot of parents actually choose to skip this step and go right to 000, especially if they are going to have a bigger baby. The reason being is that many babies will only fit into this size for a short time, and then it’s on to another!

Size 000: Size 000 is good for when babies reach about 3 months in age, or when they are in the area of 4 to 6 kilograms in weight. Parents of larger babies sometimes choose to start with this size and get the most out of those baby clothes.

Size 00: Around 6 months of age, or 6 to 8 kilograms in weight, and babies will generally be ready to fit into that size 00.

Size 0: This is the size generally found before the baby becomes a true toddler, crawling and bouncing around. Size 0 is best suited for babies around the age of 9 months, or when they reach 8 to 10 kilos in weight.

Choosing the Right Size

Sizing charts will always vary by baby and body type. This information is merely a guide to help you along the decision making path. Some things to consider:

  • Longer torso and limbs: Babies with a longer torso and limbs may require a larger size – depending on the article of clothing – even though their weight might say otherwise. The same goes for tiny babies needing a smaller size.
  • Stage of activity: Is your baby at the learning to crawl stage? Will buying a size larger get in the way of their physical movement?
  • Material: Is the clothing material of a stretchy or more static nature? If the clothes do not have enough “give”, then buying a size that fits the baby so snug now may not last as long as you would like.
  • Brand: Even with baby clothes, sizes may vary with brands. You may notice that one brand likes to run larger in size, while others smaller.

Need a Baby Gift, But Don’t Want to Hassle With Sizes?

If you just want something simple that you know involves no guessing sizes, why not take a look at our numerous blankets and wraps. They come in all sorts of colours, patterns and materials to suit both baby boys and girls. If that’s not enough, be sure to check out our list of bath products all the way from Peter Rabbit Soothing Baby Lotion to hooded bathrobe towels.

Getting to Know Hannah Montana

March 31st, 2010

Hannah Montana has stolen the hearts of millions of little girls around the world. It all started on the Disney Channel when actress Miley Cyrus became the double-life leading girl that dreams are made of: normal school kid by day, major pop singer by night. Who can resist a story quite like that?!

Miley Cyrus, daughter of famous country singer, Billy Ray Cyrus, plays the role of Miley Stewart when she is a normal teen, and Hannah Montana when she is a pop star. She’s not making it all happen on her own, however. To make the story more believable, her family and close friends are in on the ruse.

Hannah Montana Summer Pyjamas

Playing the part of Miley Stewart’s father, Robby Stewart, is her real-life father, Billy Ray Cyrus. Her brother, Jackson Stewart, is played by Jason Earles.

To keep her two lives separate, Hannah dons a blond wig, while her Miley self is a natural brunette. Her family must also appear differently while around her alter-ego in order to maintain less suspicion. As for the photographers and stalkers post-concert, Hannah has to play musical cars on the ride home or else they might put two and two together.

Hannah Montana Winter Pyjamas

Over the course of her career, Hannah racks up a huge discography of hits, such as “Yet Another Side of Me,” “True Friends,” and “I Got Nerve.” She makes friends with some of the world’s most popular celebrities, acts in tv shows and movies, and even performs for the President!

Actress, singer, named Miley… I wonder if Miss Cyrus ever gets her real life confused with her fake one. ;)

Hannah Montana has became so popular, that the series is now in its fourth season, and there has even been a release of a movie in 2009, Hannah Montana: The Movie.

It’s no wonder little girls want to be her, and even though the story is just a story, there’s no reason they can’t pretend. For the girl that loves Hannah Montana, we have a huge selection of pyjamas in our shop to suit. Check them out –> Timeforbed.com.au

Reading To Your Children Before Bed

March 23rd, 2010

In the previous blog post, I talked about sleep and whether or not your child is getting enough. I also made sure to include some tips on how to promote healthy sleeping habits, one of which was to create a calm environment by focusing on relaxing activities. Reading to your children before bed is one such activity that is perfect for this time of day, but it also has numerous additional benefits beyond the calming effect.

On Twitter, I asked whether anyone read to their children every night, and this is the response I received:

  • @JillyStansfield – “Yes without fail – he thinks it is a treat! I want my son to be familiar with text so that learning to read will be easier.”
  • @GeishaGirl77 – “I read to my boy every night; it’s a lovely way to end the day & create a love of literature.”

These mums are on the right track because reading to children before bed is one of the best things a parent can do.

Reading every night builds a routine. Yet again, this promotes a healthy sleep pattern for your children. It creates an environment of less stress and anxiety as there is a level of certainty in the child’s life.

Reading every night creates bonding time. Setting aside this special time every day gives parent and child the constant connection, as well as bringing the parent down to the child’s level.

Reading every night furthers speech development. By being able to hear speaking in an uninterrupted and clear form, a child is helped to understand and build their own speech patterns effectively. They will recognise proper pronunciation and be able to better correct themselves when speaking.

Reading every night builds vocabulary. Children will be introduced to more words sooner than from normal life alone, and they will be able to associate unfamiliar words to pictures if given in the book.

Reading every night builds reading skills. If you are a parent that points to the words as you’re reading them, the child will more than likely recognise and learn words.

Reading every night helps with listening skills. Being able to sit while paying attention to others is essential to being in a classroom environment.

Do you set aside time every day to read to your children? If so, do they take an active interest in the story, or take advantage of the calm to drift off to sleep?

Sleep and Your Kids

March 10th, 2010

Sleep. It’s one of the most important part of a human’s life, and even more so for babies and children. Sleep helps us grow, re-energise and reset; it regulates our hormones, hunger and health. Sleep gives us the fuel to basically live.

Children, from newborn to teen, sleep for an average of 40% of their life, and that percentage gets higher the closer to newborn you get. Did you know that infants can sleep upwards of 18 hours every day? With that in mind, is your baby getting enough sleep?

  • Newborn: 11 to 18 hours
  • Infants: 14 to 15 hours
  • Toddlers: 12 to 14 hours
  • Preschoolers: 11 to 13 hours
  • School-age: 10 to 11 hours

Why do babies need so much sleep?

The main reason that babies need so much sleep is because they are growing at such a massive rate. The hormones that regulate this growth are secreted more rapidly during sleep, so a proper growth rate relies on sufficient time in bed. In addition, sleep has an impact on everything from nutrition to health and the immune system.

How do I know if my child is getting enough sleep?

For newborns and infants, the need for sleep often just happens, meaning they sleep when they want to and without a typical schedule that has been set by society. Once they get to toddler age, however, there is generally a schedule involving a full night’s sleep and a nap or two during the day.

As sleep patterns and needs vary by child, it may be hard to distinguish what is right for yours in particular. To help evaluate the situation, here are some signs to look for.

  • Is your child cranky and short-tempered often?
  • Does he fall asleep frequently while riding in a car?
  • Does he fall asleep sometimes many hours before his usual bedtime?

Any of these may be signs of lack of, or at least erratic, sleep. The sleep patterns of such children should be adjusted in order to test what works best for them.

How can I promote healthy sleeping habits?

Follow a routine. Every night, do the same nighttime ritual. Start early and focus on relaxing activities, such as reading and taking baths. Create a calm environment so that your child is not distracted and overstimulated.

Cut out caffeine and sugar. It is wise to keep these items out of the reach of your children past midday if possible. They will only keep young ones awake longer than their body would be otherwise telling them, and this creates all sorts of sleep schedule problems.

Keep the bedroom comfortable. The temperature should be at a steady rate, and the bedding should be clean and comfortable. Many children do not like a completely dark room, so be sure to install a night light if necessary. Also, be sure to keep noise levels to a minimum during sleep hours.

Minimise daytime sleeping if it keeps your child up late. Too much sleeping during the day can throw off the sleep schedule, keeping your child from being able to fall asleep as normal at night. It might be necessary to force your child to stay awake more during the day until he/she can fall asleep at a normal time at night.

An adequate sleep schedule and healthy sleep habits are important to your child leading a healthy lifestyle. What do you do to get your child to bed at a decent time every night?

For a growing child, protecting that sleep and lessening any stress on their bodies is essential. Keep the comfort level while in bed for your little ones with some fantastic new winter pyjamas.
